Elle était accusée d’être une sorcière : une mère traînée de force hors de chez elle et brûlée vive au côté de son enfant 20.02.2026

On Tuesday, February 17, 2026, a 32-year-old woman and her 10-month-old infant were brutally burned alive in a remote village in India's Jharkhand province. The horrific act was instigated by a rumor, with a mob of approximately a dozen individuals dragging the victims from their home, dousing them in kerosene, and setting them on fire. The woman's husband, also present, survived the attack with severe burns and recounted his pleas to resolve the matter through the village council, which were ignored. This incident highlights the persistent issue of superstition-fueled violence in remote Indian regions, where over 2,500 people, predominantly women, have been killed for alleged witchcraft between 2000 and 2016. Local police have opened a murder investigation, arrested four men, and launched a rural awareness campaign.
