Emeritus Prof. Al Mariam Says Ethiopia Marching Fast toward Promised Land of Prosperity 31.05.2026

Emeritus Professor Al Mariam asserts that Ethiopia is rapidly progressing from poverty towards prosperity, bolstered by international support for its homegrown economic reforms. Institutions like the World Bank and IMF are assisting in the transition to a private-sector-led economy, while the EU has resumed direct budget support. Key developments include a new cooperation framework with the United States, focusing on economic, defense, and peace initiatives. Ethiopia's Homegrown Economic Reform program, initiated in 2019, has led to significant increases in export revenues, now nearing $10 billion USD, and substantial growth in import-substitute goods. Further economic potential lies in electricity exports from projects like the GERD, and advancements in aviation and infrastructure, including major airport development and a profitable Ethiopian Airlines. Urban improvements in Addis Ababa and enhanced policing are also contributing to a better quality of life and safety.
