The Commission for Determining the Financial Needs of Broadcasting Institutions (KEF) has recommended an increase in the broadcasting contribution to 18.64 Euros per month, effective from 2027. This proposal, submitted to the federal states, represents a 28-cent rise from the current monthly payment of 18.36 Euros. Previously, in February 2024, the KEF had suggested a higher increase to 18.94 Euros starting in 2025, but this was not approved by all 16 states. The revised, lower recommendation is primarily attributed to better-than-expected revenue from a higher number of contributing households. The KEF estimates that this adjustment will sufficiently fund ARD, ZDF, and Deutschlandradio for the 2025-2028 period, with a total expenditure of 42 billion Euros projected.
