Employers charged as undeclared workers found 07.07.2026

In April, the labour inspection department conducted extensive checks across 156 locations to combat undeclared employment, identifying thirty-nine salaried employees working without proper registration. These inspections, aimed at raising awareness regarding the legal consequences of undeclared work, involved checking a total of 434 workers. The findings revealed that 147 premises were employers and nine were self-employed individuals. Consequently, sixteen fines totaling €88,200 were issued. The demographic breakdown of the inspected workers included 178 third country nationals, 142 Greek Cypriots, 110 European Union citizens, and four Turkish Cypriots. Under Cyprus law, penalties for undeclared workers are severe; the Social Insurance department imposes a €1,000 fine per employee for every month of violation. These fines increase by €500 every six months, with escalating penalties for repeat infractions occurring within a two-year period.
