'Blood moon' to dazzle stargazers on March 3 3d ago

Stargazers in North America, Australia, and East Asia will have the opportunity to observe a rare "blood moon" total lunar eclipse on March 3, a celestial event where Earth positions itself directly between the sun and the moon, obscuring sunlight from the lunar surface. This total phase is anticipated to last approximately 58 minutes, during which the moon will appear reddish due to sunlight's longer red wavelengths being bent and redirected toward it by Earth's atmosphere. This phenomenon, explained by Beijing Planetarium expert Kou Wen, is uncommon and will be visible to over three billion people globally, marking the last total lunar eclipse observable worldwide until late 2028 or early 2029.
