Britain increases military support for Gulf region 3d ago

Britain is significantly increasing its military support in the Gulf region, adopting a more defensive posture. Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoons have been deployed to intercept Iranian-made drones over Cyprus and Qatar, demonstrating enhanced air defense capabilities. Furthermore, US bombers are now authorized to utilize UK bases for potential strike operations, though Britain has clarified it will not engage in direct offensive actions. Key assets, including six F-35 fighter jets, three Voyager tankers, and reinforced radar systems at RAF Akrotiri, are on standby. A Type 45 destroyer is also at high readiness, with suggestions to deploy additional naval assets like HMS Dauntless and HMS Duncan to bolster air defense. Defence Secretary John Healey stated that these deployments are prepared to protect British citizens, bases, and allies.
