Le Comité pour la protection des journalistes (CPJ) a révélé que 129 journalistes et employés de presse ont été tués dans le monde en 2025, dépassant le record de 124 morts en 2024. La guerre dans la bande de Gaza est la plus meurtrière avec 86 journalistes tués, suivie par l'Ukraine (quatre morts) et le Soudan (neuf morts). Le CPJ accuse Israël d'être responsable des deux tiers des cas, affirmant que l'armée israélienne a commis davantage d'assassinats ciblés de membres de la presse que toute autre armée gouvernementale. L'armée israélienne rejette fermement ces allégations, déclarant ne pas viser intentionnellement les journalistes et prendre des mesures pour réduire les atteintes aux civils. D'autres régions comme le Mexique, l'Inde, le Pérou et l'Arabie Saoudite ont également enregistré des journalistes tués, le CPJ soulignant que les attaques contre les médias sont un indicateur d'atteintes à d'autres libertés.
