European countries urge citizens to leave Mideast as U.S.-Iran tensions rise 10d ago

Amid escalating U.S.-Iran tensions, numerous European nations, including the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Poland, and the Netherlands, have issued urgent advisories for their citizens to leave or avoid travel to Iran and several other Middle East regions. These warnings cite the potential for rapid deterioration of the security situation, flight cancellations, prolonged airspace closures, and possible drone and missile attacks. The British government has temporarily withdrawn staff from Iran, while France has advised against travel to Israel, Jerusalem, and the West Bank. Italy and Poland have also strongly discouraged travel to Iraq and Lebanon, respectively. Germany has expanded its travel guidance to discourage travel to all of Israel. These advisories follow the arrival of the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier off Israel's coast and increased U.S. military presence in the region, with Iran vowing retaliation if attacked.
