Families take shelter in schools as Lebanon’s government calls Hezbollah’s strike on Israel illegal 11d ago

Lebanese civilians are seeking shelter in Beirut schools following a deadly escalation between Israel and Hezbollah, which resulted in at least 31 deaths and 149 injuries in overnight strikes across southern Lebanon and Beirut's suburbs. The Lebanese government has officially condemned Hezbollah's actions as illegal, demanding the group relinquish its weapons and asserting that only the state should dictate matters of war and peace. This marks the harshest stance the government has taken against the powerful militant group. The escalation occurred after Hezbollah fired missiles into Israel for the first time in over a year, claiming retaliation for the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and "repeated Israeli aggressions." Israel, in response, has warned residents in southern and eastern Lebanon to evacuate and has called up over 100,000 reservists, keeping "all options on the table."
