France arrests activists blocking ship over alleged Russia uranium links 11d ago

Four Greenpeace activists were arrested by French police on Monday at the port of Dunkirk after blocking the cargo ship Mikhail Dudin for five hours. The activists, of German, Austrian, and Dutch nationality, protested the ship's alleged transport of uranium from Russia for France's nuclear power plants, carrying signs like "Stop toxic contracts" and "Solidarity with Ukrainians." French authorities are investigating the obstruction, which carries a potential one-year prison sentence and a 15,000-euro fine. Greenpeace has accused France of maintaining ties with Russia's state-owned energy company, Rosatom, despite the war in Ukraine, citing a 2018 deal between French energy giant EDF and a Rosatom subsidiary for reprocessed uranium. The Mikhail Dudin has made over 20 round trips between Dunkirk and Russian ports since February 24, 2022.
