Hezbollah just restarted the fight that Israel was waiting to finish 11d ago

In the early hours of Monday, Hezbollah initiated a new phase of conflict by launching missiles and drones at an Israeli military base, claiming it was retaliation for the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Despite Israel stating the attack caused no damage, with one projectile intercepted and others landing in open areas, and Lebanon's Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemning the act as "irresponsible," Hezbollah's move has provided Israel with justification to escalate strikes. Israel had been preparing for such an escalation, having conducted near-daily strikes on Lebanon since a 2024 ceasefire, accusing Hezbollah of rearming. This latest action by Hezbollah, following warnings to Lebanon about potential Israeli infrastructure strikes in response to intervention, has prompted Israel to call up 100,000 reservists for deployment to the northern border, with IDF spokesman Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin stating Hezbollah "will pay a heavy price" and that "all options are on the table" regarding a potential ground incursion.
