Iran's president appoints Ebn Al-Reza as acting defense minister 3d ago

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian has appointed Seyed Majid Ebn Al-Reza as the acting defense minister, as announced by Seyyed Mehdi Tabatabaei, deputy for communications at the president's office, via social media on Monday. This interim appointment follows the death of former Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh in a joint U.S.-Israeli airstrike on Tehran on Saturday. Ebn Al-Reza previously held the position of deputy defense minister. The airstrikes on Saturday also resulted in the deaths of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, members of his family, senior military officials, and civilians. In retaliation, Iran launched missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and U.S. bases throughout the Middle East.
