Memory scalpers hunt scarce DRAM with bot blitz 11d ago

Web scraping bots, enhanced by AI, are aggressively targeting e-commerce sites to locate scarce DRAM, particularly DDR5 memory, for resale at inflated prices. DataDome's Galileo threat team observed over 10 million web scraping requests, with bots querying product inventories every 6.5 seconds, significantly outnumbering legitimate users. These bots employ cache busting techniques to ensure real-time inventory data and throttle requests to evade detection. While not directly purchasing, the bots' primary goal is to acquire limited DRAM stock, exacerbating supply shortages driven by hyperscalers and AI giants. This scarcity is projected to double DRAM prices in Q1 2026, impacting mid-tier cloud vendors and potentially limiting entry-level PC and phone shipments.
