Paramount to combine HBO Max and Paramount+ 3d ago

Paramount announced plans to merge its Paramount+ streaming service with Warner Bros. Discovery's HBO Max, following the completion of their acquisition. This strategic move aims to create a combined entity with over 210 million subscribers, positioning it as a stronger competitor against Netflix, which currently boasts 325 million global paid subscribers. Paramount chairman and CEO David Ellison emphasized that enhancing direct-to-consumer offerings is crucial for the merged company's success. The combined streamer will operate in over 100 countries, featuring a diverse content library including popular series, franchises, sports, and news. While regulatory approval for the merger is pending, executives are addressing potential concerns, particularly regarding the consolidation of two major film studios, Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures, with a commitment to releasing at least 30 theatrical films annually.
