Maurene Comey, in first public remarks, calls out the Justice Department that fired her 11d ago

Maurene Comey, recently fired from the Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office, delivered her first public remarks at a Fordham Law School conference, expressing grave concerns about the Justice Department's diminished credibility. Drawing an analogy to a dam and reservoir, she argued that trust in the department has been severely eroded, impacting the presumption of truthfulness for Assistant U.S. Attorneys. Comey, who is suing the Trump administration for her termination, which she believes was politically motivated, emphasized the importance of prosecutors remaining ethical and unafraid of political interference. She distinguished between dedicated public servants facing resource challenges and those who engage in unethical practices, such as misrepresenting facts or law, for whom she expressed no sympathy. Her remarks were made alongside other former federal prosecutors who also resigned due to perceived political interference.
