Saturday Night Live criticised for 'hurtful' Tourette's sketch 3d ago

Saturday Night Live (SNL) has faced significant criticism from Tourette Action, a charity, for a sketch that ridiculed individuals with Tourette syndrome. The sketch featured cast members impersonating celebrities like Bill Cosby, Mel Gibson, and JK Rowling, who all claimed their past controversial actions were due to the neurological condition. This comedic portrayal has been deemed "not acceptable" and "hurtful" by Emma McNally, CEO of Tourette Action, who emphasized that mocking a disability is never appropriate and that Tourette's is a debilitating condition, not a source of entertainment. The controversy follows a recent incident at the Bafta Awards where a campaigner with Tourette's involuntarily shouted a racial slur, leading to widespread discussion and apologies from Bafta.
