Dans une interview accordée au New York Post, publiée le lundi 2 mars, le président américain Donald Trump a déclaré ne pas exclure l'envoi de troupes terrestres en Iran si la situation l'exigeait, rompant ainsi avec la rhétorique habituelle des présidents américains. Il a affirmé que cette option n'était pas un tabou pour lui, contrairement à ses prédécesseurs. Trump a également suggéré que les opérations militaires, baptisées "Fureur épique", pourraient être plus courtes que prévu, prédisant qu'elles iraient "très vite" grâce à l'élimination rapide de 49 hauts responsables iraniens. Réagissant à un sondage Reuters/Ipsos défavorable aux frappes, il a soutenu qu'il existait une "majorité silencieuse" en faveur de l'opération, soulignant l'urgence d'empêcher l'Iran de se doter de l'arme nucléaire.
