Starmer criticises Trump over Iran strikes, as he defends UK position 7d ago

Sir Keir Starmer stated that the UK government does not support "regime change from the skies," positioning himself against President Trump's stance on the joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran. Initially, Starmer refused to allow UK bases to be used for the initial offensive strikes, citing Britain's national interest and lessons learned from the Iraq War. However, following Iran's "outrageous" retaliatory missile and drone attacks across the Middle East, which threatened British interests and allies, the UK agreed to permit the use of its bases for "defensive" strikes on Iranian missile infrastructure. This decision was made after Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the US and Israeli attacks on Saturday. Starmer emphasized that UK involvement is limited to defensive purposes and not offensive actions.
