Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan stated on Monday, March 2, 2026, that Tamil language has achieved significant global recognition under the Narendra Modi government, a sentiment he expressed while releasing 13 books on Tamil heritage published by the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry. He lauded Prime Minister Modi for frequently referencing Tamil literature and culture on international platforms, even suggesting Modi speaks more of Tamil than his native Gujarati, which he believes should be a source of pride for Tamils. Radhakrishnan also countered narratives suggesting India was not historically unified, emphasizing cultural unity through shared dharma and spiritual ethos, citing the widespread influence of epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata. He highlighted initiatives like the Kashi Tamil Sangamam and the establishment of a Thiruvalluvar Chair in Malaysia as crucial for preserving Tamil culture. Union Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw added that the Modi government has allocated nine times more funds to Tamil Nadu over the last decade compared to the UPA.
