US-Israel war on Iran dramatically expands across Middle East 3d ago

The US-Israel war against Iran has escalated dramatically, now encompassing at least nine countries and resulting in significant casualties and destruction. Following the Israeli strike that killed Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Saturday, Iran retaliated with attacks on oil infrastructure and other targets across a vast swathe of the Middle East, from the Gulf of Oman to Cyprus. Israeli and US forces launched further strikes into Iran, with the Iranian Red Crescent Society reporting over 500 deaths and 130 cities attacked. US President Donald Trump indicated the air campaign could last weeks, with more significant attacks imminent, while US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth stated the goals are to dismantle Iran's navy, ballistic missile production, and nuclear capabilities. The conflict has disrupted global oil trade, halted shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, and caused oil prices to surge.
