Erhurman meets outgoing US ambassador Davis 05.05.2026

On Tuesday, Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman held a meeting with outgoing United States ambassador Julie Davis in Nicosia to discuss recent regional developments. Davis, who served on the island since February 2023, recently resigned from the US State Department following a brief tenure as charge d’affaires in Ukraine. Reports suggest her departure stemmed from policy disagreements with President Donald Trump regarding the war in Ukraine, though the State Department officially denied these claims. During her time in Cyprus, government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis praised her efforts, noting that bilateral relations reached their highest level since the Republic’s founding. While President Trump has nominated John Breslow to succeed her in Nicosia, the US Senate has not yet confirmed his appointment to the position.
