Ethiopia's East African Affairs Advisor to the Prime Minister, Getachew Reda, stated at a national security conference in Addis Ababa that Eritrea's regime continues to pursue a strategy of weakening Ethiopia as part of its own survival calculus. Speaking at the Ethiopian National Defense College, Getachew explained that a stable and prosperous Ethiopia would fundamentally challenge the foundations of Eritrean rule. He noted that historical relations between the two countries have shaped Ethiopian political developments, with successive governments—from Emperor Haile Selassie to the Derg and the EPRDF—facing challenges tied to their handling of Eritrea. Getachew expressed confidence that Eritrea's efforts to undermine Ethiopia would ultimately fail, citing Ethiopia's resilience.
