91En Essonne, « l’appel au secours » de Samia pour offrir un avenir meilleur à sa fille trisomique14 min 22.02.2026

Samia, an Algerian mother, relocated to Essonne, France, in 2019 with her 12-year-old daughter Lyna, who has Down syndrome, seeking better care and educational opportunities. Facing precarious housing and irregular immigration status, Samia is struggling to provide for Lyna, whose specialized medical equipment is non-functional due to unpaid rent and lack of utilities in their Vigneux-sur-Seine apartment. Despite a February 2024 MDPH notification recommending placement in a medico-educational institute (IME), Lyna is currently attending a middle school in Évry-Courcouronnes with limited support, while Samia is under eviction threat and unable to access disability benefits due to her undocumented status, highlighting a critical shortage of IME places in the department, with over 4.6 million euros invested in 2025 for new solutions.
