At the International Vienna Energy and Climate Forum 2026, Ethiopia's Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos advocated for increased and equitable climate financing for developing nations to facilitate their transition to clean energy. He emphasized the critical need for more concessional finance, especially for the least developed and landlocked countries, highlighting Africa's potential for low-carbon industrialization through its renewable energy and critical mineral resources. Minister Timothewos acknowledged that challenges such as limited energy access, infrastructure deficits, and market restrictions impede progress. He also showcased Ethiopia's dedication to climate-resilient development, noting that approximately 95 percent of its energy is derived from renewables and that the nation is investing in eco-friendly industrial parks to promote green industrialization.
