EU disease agency urges states to stay on alert, after Ebola case confirmed in France 25.06.2026

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) called on EU health ministries to enhance preparedness after France confirmed the first Ebola case in the European Union. The patient is a doctor who returned from a humanitarian mission in eastern DR Congo, the epicenter of the current outbreak. The ECDC stated that the risk of sustained transmission within the EU is very low, provided effective measures for early detection, isolation, and treatment are implemented.
