The European Union is establishing a new high-level group composed of political and military leaders from its member states, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine to address Europe's defence capability gaps amid escalating Russian threats. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas announced the initiative at an informal meeting of defence ministers in Ireland on Tuesday, stating it would help design a fresh approach to European defence. Kallas emphasized the need for "some of the brightest minds on security and defence" to provide innovative solutions for faster and more effective gap-filling, especially given the current security situation in Europe.
