European Parliament member Rima Hassan was detained in France on Thursday by police on suspicion of "apology for terrorism," according to French media reports. The investigation reportedly stems from a social media post on X that referenced Kozo Okamoto, an individual involved in a 1972 attack at Israel's Ben Gurion International Airport, which Hassan subsequently deleted. Members of her La France Insoumise (LFI) party, including founder Jean-Luc Melenchon, have condemned the detention, asserting it is an attempt to silence supporters of Palestine and a violation of parliamentary immunity. Additionally, a small quantity of synthetic drugs was reportedly found on Hassan during her apprehension. Hassan, a 33-year-old French-Palestinian lawyer and activist, was elected to the European Parliament in 2024 and has been a vocal critic of Israel's actions in Gaza.
