European robotics start-ups take on Chinese heavyweights 19.06.2026

European robotics startups are striving to carve out niches in the global market, particularly in social and specialized industrial applications, as a counterpoint to the overwhelming production capacity of Chinese manufacturers like Unitree and Agibot. Companies such as France's Enchanted Tools, with its multilingual Mirokai robot, and Germany's Neura, which has secured significant funding and orders for its humanoid robots, are emphasizing European manufacturing and aiming for mass production by the end of the year. While acknowledging the reliance on American AI technology like Nvidia chips, these European firms are driven by the need for automation to address labor shortages due to aging populations and a desire for technological sovereignty, warning against the risks of sensitive data falling into the wrong hands if production is solely concentrated in China. Spain's PAL Robotics and French-American Genesis AI are also part of this burgeoning European effort.
