Former Conservative MP and justice minister Crispin Blunt, 65, was fined £1,200 after pleading guilty to four drug charges at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday. The charges stemmed from a police raid on his Surrey home in October 2023, where officers discovered GBL, cannabis, and crystal meth. Blunt, who previously served as minister for prisons, probation, and justice, argued for drug legalisation and claimed he was a victim of blackmail by his drug dealer. The Deputy Chief Magistrate noted that Blunt's actions risked undermining confidence in Parliamentarians by breaking the laws he helped enact. Blunt, who lost the Tory whip in October 2023 and stood down as an MP at the 2024 general election, had also been under investigation for rape, though no further action was taken due to insufficient evidence.
