Ex-UK police officer accused of scamming Dior, Cartier and Apple in refund fraud 07.05.2026

A former UK police officer, identified as 36-year-old Rhys Hanley, is facing multiple fraud charges for allegedly scamming high-end brands including Dior, Cartier, and Apple out of an estimated £17,000 through a systematic refund fraud scheme. Court documents reveal that Hanley purportedly exploited retail return policies by obtaining refunds for items he had not purchased, or for goods that were counterfeit. The alleged fraudulent activities took place between December 2017 and October 2021, primarily targeting stores in London. Hanley, who was previously a constable with the Metropolitan Police, has pleaded not guilty to seven counts of fraud by false representation and one count of possession of criminal property, and his trial is scheduled to commence at Southwark Crown Court on June 10, 2024.
