US positions F-22 stealth fighters in Israel, puts 'almost any target in Iran at risk' 27.02.2026

Eleven U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor stealth fighters have been operationally deployed to Israel's Ovda Air Base, marking the first-ever deployment of American combat aircraft to the country. This move, part of a significant U.S. military buildup in the region, aims to deter Iran amid growing concerns over its nuclear program and missile capabilities. Retired Lt. Gen. Joseph Guastella stated the F-22's presence is a clear deterrent signal, enabling negotiations from a position of strength and allowing the U.S. to hold "almost any target in Iran at risk." The deployment expands presidential options, providing greater flexibility and readiness for sustained combat operations if necessary, with Israel offering fewer political constraints than some Gulf bases.
