FAA investigating close call between plane registered to flight school and JetBlue passenger jet near Fort Lauderdale 03.06.2026

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating a near-collision incident that occurred on Monday around 6:15 p.m. west of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. A JetBlue Airways passenger jet, Flight 1256, received an onboard alert about an unidentified aircraft nearby that was not communicating with air traffic control. The unidentified aircraft, a Beechcraft 76 registered to Sun City Aviation LLC, came within 500 feet vertically and 1.6 miles horizontally of the JetBlue plane as it was approaching for landing. Pilots on the JetBlue flight reported receiving a Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) notification and ascended to avoid the other aircraft, which was reportedly operating under visual flight rules in an area with concentrated flight training activity.
