Face aux dégâts qui se multiplient, chasseurs et agriculteurs cherchent à riposter face aux sangliers 21.02.2026

In the Hautes-Pyrénées department, hunters and farmers are struggling to combat the escalating damage caused by wild boars, despite a 30% increase in animals culled, reaching 6,000 in the past year. The Federation of Hunters has incurred over €1 million in costs due to these damages, with nearly half of this amount reimbursed to farmers for crop losses under the 1968 law. Significant damage is concentrated in specific areas, particularly a "black zone" stretching from Capvern to the Gers, and even extending into urban areas like Séméac and the outskirts of Tarbes. Farmers are frustrated, resorting to night patrols and demanding year-round hunting and trapping, while the Federation is exploring deterrents and electric fencing, acknowledging the proliferation of boars in unmaintained forest areas.
