Facing wildfires: water bomber aircraft unable to scoop water in Luxembourg 14.07.2026

A fire ravaged between 5 and 10 hectares of fields and forest near Consdorf on Sunday afternoon, mobilizing 70 firefighters and about twenty water tankers from the CGDIS. According to Cédric Gantzer, communications officer for the CGDIS, the probable cause of the fire was agricultural machinery during the harvest of tall, dry wheat, fueled by the wind. Unlike wildfires in France or Spain, the fire burned on the ground without reaching the treetops, which were too green. The fire was brought under control in 1.5 to 2 hours, with no injuries reported and no evacuations required.
