FACT CHECK: ‘No 2028 election’ claim is ‘fake news,’ Malacañang says 03.06.2026

Malacañang has labeled claims of no elections in 2028 and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. being replaced by his son, Sandro, as "fake news." The allegations originated from a video uploaded on May 22 and were amplified on social media platforms, attributing them to remarks by Senator Imee Marcos regarding charter change. President Marcos Jr. himself dismissed his sister's claims on May 29 in Tokyo, Japan, stating they were untrue and advising her to verify her sources. Palace Press Officer Claire Castro affirmed that the administration will adhere to the law and that the 2028 elections are proceeding as planned, rejecting any intentions to extend the President's term. Senator Imee Marcos had presented a video alleging a push for charter change to extend terms and alter eligibility for presidential candidates, which was refuted by the minority bloc and Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri. Malacañang suggested these claims were a diversionary tactic to obscure other pressing issues.
