Fadillah: Strategic partnerships between govt, industry and financiers key to accelerating Malaysia’s energy transition 03.06.2026

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof emphasized that accelerating Malaysia's energy transition hinges on strategic collaborations between government bodies, utilities, developers, and financial institutions. Speaking at the second Energy Transition Conference 2026 (ETCon26), organized by Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), he highlighted the conference's role as a platform for global idea exchange and a reflection of Malaysia's commitment to moving from ambition to execution in its sustainability goals. Fadillah likened the current energy transition to past developmental achievements, stressing it's about people's well-being and prosperity, not just technology. He noted that TNB plans to invest RM43 billion ($10.8 billion) between 2025-2027 to enhance the grid with AI for renewable energy integration. He also pointed to the projected 4-5% annual electricity demand growth in ASEAN, driven by industrialization, urbanization, and new demands like EVs and AI data centers, underscoring the importance of the ASEAN Power Grid initiative for regional energy security.
