Family files lawsuit after man dies in care of telehealth ICU doctor 09.04.2026

A lawsuit has been filed by the family of Conor Hylton, a 26-year-old University of Connecticut student, who died in August 2024 at Bridgeport Hospital Milford Campus. Hylton was admitted with pancreatitis, dehydration, metabolic acidosis, and alcohol withdrawal. The family alleges that the hospital provided substandard care and that Hylton was declared dead by a telehealth ICU doctor via video screen, rather than an in-person physician. The lawsuit highlights concerns about the increasing use of telehealth in ICUs without adequate standards or disclosure to patients, arguing that this lack of on-site critical care specialists contributed to delays in his intubation and ultimately his death. The hospital, owned by Yale New Haven Health, stated they are committed to quality care but cannot comment on pending litigation.
