Family pleads for help as teen faces life-threatening bone marrow failure 20.03.2026

Juan Uribe is urgently seeking a stem cell donor for his 15-year-old son, Max, who is facing life-threatening bone marrow failure due to a rare blood disorder diagnosed in December 2024 as clonal cytopenia. Max's condition has progressed, with all three blood counts—red, white, and platelets—steadily decreasing, necessitating hospitalization for a transplant in May 2024. Without a suitable donor, Max risks developing myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and potentially acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The search for a match is complicated by Max's mixed heritage (half-Colombian, Italian, British, German), significantly reducing his chances of finding a compatible donor compared to patients with more common ethnic backgrounds. A partial match, while an option, carries a lower survival rate and increased risk of graft versus host disease.
