Faschings-Plakat in Alpendorf löst heftige Debatte aus – „Nicht böse gemeint“ 17.02.2026

A Fasching (Carnival) poster in Egerkingen, Switzerland, featuring a rocket with the slogan "The universe is calling," has ignited a fierce debate over a racially charged term derived from the town's name. This term, used for decades, has resurfaced and is now being criticized as discriminatory by activists like Celeste Ugochukwu, who calls it an insult to dark-skinned people. However, Heinz Hegetschweiler, president of the Swiss Fasching Association, defends it as a harmless, humorous jest not intended to offend. Egerkingen's mayor, Bernhard Studer, acknowledges the controversy and plans to discuss the matter with organizers, while social media users are divided between defending the tradition and suggesting alternatives. The incident highlights the evolving societal sensitivity impacting traditional customs.
