During the renovation of the palace in Zagreb's Upper Town, located just fifty meters from St. Mark's Church, exceptionally well-preserved wall frescoes were discovered, causing great surprise among experts. These artworks, dating from the 17th century, took their current form in the 18th century, while the 19th century brought the addition of the printing house wing of Dr. Ljudevit Gaj. The head of restoration works, Benedikta Vilenica, highlighted that the greatest challenge was completing the restoration of 40 rooms within the timeframe stipulated by European funds. The total value of the renovation is 9.2 million euros plus VAT, of which approximately 1.7 million euros was spent on the frescoes. A room converted into a garden pavilion with original vedute is particularly valuable. From October 1st, the rooms will once again serve students of the Faculty of Law in Zagreb, adhering to high earthquake safety standards.
