FBI announces 305 arrests, 24 missing children recovered in Chicago during Operation New Dawn 03.07.2026

Operation New Dawn, a 60-day cross-agency initiative led by the FBI in Chicago, has resulted in 305 arrests and the recovery of 24 missing or kidnapped children. The operation, which began in earnest on May 1, involved 11 federal agencies including the DEA, ATF, and Homeland Security Investigations, working collaboratively under the banner of the United States flag. Charges filed against suspects include robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, child exploitation, gun trafficking, and immigration violations. FBI Director Kash Patel highlighted the operation's success as a demonstration of a "massive, whole-of-government approach" to combatting violent crime and crimes against children. A significant outcome includes 179 defendants charged in federal court across 140 new criminal cases.
