Fearne, Cutajar return to Cabinet an ‘abandonment’ of accountability, Repubblika says 03.06.2026

Repubblika has strongly condemned Prime Minister Robert Abela's decision to reappoint Chris Fearne and Rosianne Cutajar to his Cabinet, citing their previous resignations due to corruption scandals. The NGO argues that this move prioritizes political loyalty over accountability and justice, demonstrating a persistent weakness in Malta's rule of law. Fearne resigned in May 2024 after being charged with fraud in the Vitals hospitals scandal, a case that remains ongoing. Cutajar resigned in 2023 following concerns raised by the Standards Commissioner regarding her conduct and links to figures involved in corruption, including damning WhatsApp exchanges with Yorgen Fenech. Repubblika questions the government's stance, pointing out that the unresolved issues that led to their initial resignations remain valid reasons to exclude them from Cabinet.
