Federal Minister of Natural Resources, Tim Hodgson, announced in Calgary on Saturday an allocation of over $26 million to support 17 clean energy projects in Alberta and Saskatchewan. This federal investment aims to modernize electrical infrastructure, foster the growth of clean industries, and train the workforce necessary for the energy transition. The Western Transmission Catalysts (WTC) project, led by researcher Blake Shaffer, is the primary beneficiary with $4.2 million. This initiative, launched by the Indigenous Power Coalition in partnership with the University of Calgary, seeks to improve electrical interconnections in Western Canada. The goal is to address challenges posed by increasing demand, such as data centers and electric vehicles, while ensuring energy sovereignty and affordability for future generations.
