ZDF has immediately recalled its New York correspondent, Nicola Albrecht, due to severe violations of the broadcaster's guidelines and journalistic standards. The decision follows a report aired on "heute journal" concerning US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation raids. The report incorrectly included AI-generated images of children clinging to their mother, which should not have been used without journalistic justification or contextualization according to ZDF's internal rules. Additionally, a real scene shown was taken out of context and dated from 2022. ZDF's editor-in-chief, Bettina Schausten, emphasized the significant damage to the broadcaster's credibility and stated that ZDF is developing measures to ensure adherence to journalistic standards.
