Financial Administration Uncovers Sweetened Beverage Tax Fraud Exceeding Half a Million Euros - Domestic - News - pravda.sk 07.07.2026

The Financial Administration has successfully uncovered an organized group of companies that attempted to illegitimately claim tax refunds on sweetened non-alcoholic beverages. The fraudulent scheme utilized companies established in eastern Slovakia, which were subsequently transferred to non-contactable Polish directors. The entities failed to provide any documentation and obstructed audits, resulting in the forfeiture of tax refund claims exceeding 543,000 euros. In this matter, the Financial Administration canceled the Value Added Tax (VAT) registrations of the affected entities. According to the President of the Financial Administration, Jozef Kiss, this case demonstrates the effectiveness of analytical tools that enable targeted audits of high-risk entities and protect public finances. This specific tax is a new excise tax introduced on July 1, 2024, aimed at promoting healthier dietary habits among the population.
