On Saturday afternoon, a large fire broke out in Brestovica pri Komnu, burning approximately 20 hectares of land in the municipalities of Komen and Miren - Kostanjevica. The intervention was extremely extensive, involving 148 members of volunteer fire departments, including firefighters from the Karst, Gorica, and Nova Gorica - Šempeter fire brigades, as well as the Nova Gorica professional unit. The command vehicle of the Slovene Firefighting Association was also activated for support, and four aircraft from the state aerial firefighting unit assisted in the suppression, dropping 38 water loads. Firefighters largely contained the fire on Saturday evening, and final operations were carried out overnight. Remedial work is currently underway, and aerial assistance is no longer required as the bora wind is subsiding.
