Fire in Oreokastro: Water drops continue at two factories 05.07.2026

Firefighting operations in Oreokastro, Thessaloniki, remain in full swing as the fire continues to burn in two factories, despite the controlled situation in other fronts. According to the Fire Service Officer, Kostas Tsigas, one factory is a recycling plant and the other is a textile factory, a fact that causes a high thermal load and dense black smoke. 160 firefighters are operating with 52 vehicles, while Canadair aircraft and helicopters are performing continuous water drops to prevent re-ignition and reduce toxic substances. Water tankers and machinery from the Region of Central Macedonia and the Directorate of Construction and Disaster Response are assisting in the firefighting efforts. Aerial firefighting continues throughout the day with the aim of limiting heat transfer and ensuring the safety of the area.
