Flood alert issued for 14 districts, rain likely to continue in Ctg, Barishal for 48 hours 07.07.2026

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall across several divisions, specifically targeting Chattogram and Barishal for the next 48 hours. Meteorologists AKM Nazmul Haque and Bazlur Rashid noted that the active southwest monsoon is driving these intense downpours, which are expected to continue until July 11. Consequently, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) has forecasted short-term floods in approximately 14 districts, including Bandarban, Cox's Bazar, Feni, and Sylhet, due to heavy upstream rainfall. There is also a significant risk of landslides in hilly regions and the Teesta river potentially exceeding danger levels in Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat. In response, district administrations in Bandarban and Rangamati have activated emergency shelters and used loudspeakers to urge residents in high-risk landslide zones to relocate to safer areas immediately.
