Flood Forecasting warns of heavy rainfall, rising rivers in north, northeast 08.06.2026

The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) has issued a special weather bulletin forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in northern and northeastern Bangladesh and adjacent upstream Indian states over the next five days. Between June 8 and June 13, isolated areas within Sylhet and Rangpur divisions could receive 250-300mm of cumulative rainfall, with intense precipitation also expected in Indian regions of Assam, Meghalaya, and West Bengal. This is projected to cause significant rises in major river basins, with the Surma and Kushiyara rivers in Sylhet possibly reaching warning levels and causing localized flooding. Similarly, rivers like the Teesta, Dharla, and Dudhkumar in Rangpur are expected to swell, with the Teesta potentially reaching alert thresholds.
