Five years after the catastrophic floods of July 2021 in Wallonia, the Walloon Region is continuing to reimburse insurers, a process that will extend until 2031. The initial agreement, signed on August 12, 2021, between the Region and Assuralia, provided for full coverage for policyholders with simple risks, with interest-free pre-financing by the insurers. The total cost of damage in Wallonia has been estimated at 2.24 billion euros out of 2.3 billion nationwide, with the Region expected to cover 1.03 billion. This amount is distributed among nine large insurers and seven small insurers.
